As of 29 May 2023, we only have TWO more weeks of Council-funded Zumba Gold Fitness classes for this financial year.
Final Active & Healthy classes will be held from Tuesday 6 June to Saturday 10 June. PLUS that week is also my 50th birthday!! So, it's going to be a HUGE week! We'll be having CATCH-UPS for each class (see below) as well as saying FAREWELL to a number of classes *sad face*. As per my previous email (read here), I will not be continuing classes at Acacia Ridge, Bellbowrie, Inala and Richlands. However, I have been advised by Brisbane City Council that the Richlands class is being taken over by another Zumba Gold instructor, Jessie, who some of you already know and love. Yep, it's confusing, I know!
Zumba Gold Fitness is a class format offered by Zumba, whilst the Brisbane City Councils events for seniors are also called GOLD (Growing Old and Living Dangerously). Let me explain ... UPDATE FROM OLGA: There are some CHANGES to my Active and Healthy class schedule for the NEXT financial year (July 2023 to June 2024).
As many of you know, I have sustained knee (and shoulder) injuries. The number of Zumba Gold classes I'm currently doing is putting too much load on my body. After speaking with my coach and my physio, I have chosen to cut back on my Active and Healthy classes for the 2023/2024 financial year. Why is warming up in our Zumba Gold classes important?
The warm-up generally consists of a gradual increase in intensity in physical activity to prepare the body for more vigorous exercise. The purpose of the warm up is to: My physio recommended that I watch "Limitless with Chris Hemsworth" on Disney Plus (National Geographic), which I've been really enjoying (even beyond the fact that Chris is shirtless in pretty much every episode).
I've just watched episode 5 on Memory and it talks a lot about the impact of dance on brain function. I would love to share some of the insights from this episode: Can dance be a shortcut to better health?
Myf Warhurst explores the power of dance for older Australians in an inspiring and emotional two-part special called "Keep On Dancing" on the ABC. The series follows a group of over 65 year olds who attempt to slow the effects of ageing through dance training over 12 weeks, culminating in a special performance. If you want to shake it solo, you may be unsure as to which class would best suit you:
Let's break it down and see what's different and what's the same. Everybody has heard of Zumba and you've probably tried at least one class, but did you know there's more than one type of Zumba class?
